Security Doors Built for Pittsburg Homes
We live and work here just like you.

The city-supported Pittsburg Marina anchors a Delta waterfront identity here, and the municipal calendar carries that identity into the warm months with events such as First Fridays on the waterfront. NOAA describes California's underlying pattern as hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, which is what makes that season long. For a household, the practical effect is ordinary but constant: people and equipment moving through the entry before an outing and again after it, often in the last warm hour of the evening, with the house wanting air the entire time.
A front entry built for that rhythm has to do more than latch. Steve's Mobile Security has been making custom, high-quality security products since 1999, and every door is specified at the opening it will occupy rather than pulled from a stock size. More than forty designs are available, frame colors come in a range, and screen colors are chosen separately, so the finished entry suits the house instead of advertising itself.
What that buys day to day is straightforward. A close perimeter fit helps exclude insects and small critters, which is the difference between an entry you leave open on a warm evening and one you stop using by midsummer. The frame gives pets a durable boundary and takes the normal abuse of children and daily traffic without sagging. It adds a serious additional barrier at the entry while preserving clear visibility and substantial airflow. The team is knowledgeable, honest, and passionate about the craft, and the standard is unchanged: protection and appearance both matter, and a well-built door should still be delivering both many years from now.

Four Things Homeowners Believe About Security Doors, and What Is Actually True
Most people arrive at this decision carrying a picture in their head, and the picture is usually thirty years out of date. It was formed by a heavy black grate on somebody's aunt's house, or by a bent aluminum screen that never latched right. Those impressions are fair — they came from real products. They are just no longer a good description of what a custom security screen door is. It is worth taking the four most common objections in order, because each one turns out to hinge on a detail that is genuinely worth understanding.
"They All Look Like Bars"
This is the objection that stops most homeowners, and it is aimed at a real product: the utilitarian grille, which was designed with no reference to the house behind it. A custom door is specified the other way around. More than forty designs are available, ranging from clean geometric lines to ornamental patterns, and the point of that range is that the entry can answer the architecture rather than override it. Frame colors are chosen from a range of finishes, and screen colors are selected separately, so the mesh can be made to recede or to read as a deliberate part of the composition. A door specified this way does not look like security equipment. It looks like the front of the house.
"I Will Lose the View and the Light"
The opposite is closer to true. Visibility outward is one of the core functions: you can see who is on the step and decide what to do before anything opens. What makes the difference is the screen specification, and this is where the honest qualifications matter.
- Security mesh: the options available depend on the specific door you select, and are matched to that model rather than offered as a blanket promise.
- Perforated screens: the colors and availability depend on how much privacy you want, the product you choose, and what is in supply.
- Privacy is a dial, not a switch: the level of screening is a decision made up front, not something you discover after installation.
- Airflow: a properly specified door lets substantial air move through the opening while the entry stays closed and latched.
"It Is Just a Screen Door With a Marketing Name"
This objection deserves the most direct answer, because the difference is structural. A conventional insect screen is a light frame carrying light mesh; it is built to stop bugs and it does that until the corners rack. A custom security screen door is a load-bearing assembly. The frame does the structural work and is built to your measured opening, which produces a close perimeter fit — and that fit is what actually keeps insects and small critters from finding the gap that a loose screen always develops. The same rigidity gives a dog a durable boundary to lean against, and absorbs the normal abuse of children, pets, and daily household traffic without the sag and rattle that ends a standard screen's life.
On forced entry, the truthful claim is narrower than the marketing you may have heard elsewhere: a well-built security screen door is a serious additional barrier at the entry, adding meaningful resistance where a conventional screen offers essentially none. It does not make a home impenetrable, and it should never be sold that way. Keeping bugs out and slowing an intruder down are two separate benefits that happen to share a frame.
"It Only Works on a Standard Front Door"
Front entries are the most common starting point, not the boundary. Double-door entrances can be handled as a matched pair. French doors, side doors off a kitchen or laundry room, and rear entries onto a patio are all routine, and the back of the house is frequently where a household most wants an opening it can leave open. The working rule is that a suitable hinged exterior doorway may be a candidate, and the only way to resolve it is to look at the actual opening.
Old Town and the Newer Hills
Pittsburg is a useful illustration of why measurement beats assumption. The city's 2040 General Plan recognizes historic Old Town and an established urban fabric, while the city separately documents later planning in the Faria/Southwest Hills area. The 2020 Census counted 24,078 total housing units in the city (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020 Census Redistricting Data, Table C1, published by the California Department of Finance in 2021), spread across both conditions. Those two conditions ask different questions at the entry. An established property may have openings that were modified at some point, tighter approaches, or trim reworked by more than one owner. Later planned housing may repeat builder configurations from house to house, but slope and landing conditions still vary enough that nothing can be assumed from the street. In both cases the address decides, not the neighborhood.
Since 1999, Specified in Person
The founding year at Steve's Mobile Security was 1999, and the work has centered on custom, high-quality security products ever since. The team is knowledgeable, honest, and passionate about what it builds, and holds a straightforward position: appearance and protection both matter, and no homeowner should have to surrender one to get the other. The process starts with a consultation at the opening — swing, approach, configuration, and what you want the entry to do — and ends with professional installation of a door built for that spot. If your objection is on the list above, it is worth testing it against a real specification.
